This painting recalls the Bush Leaf Medicine and presents the leaves of a native plant that is intrinsic to the healing process of aboriginal communities. Traditionally, the women travel to different areas of Utopia to collect leaves from these plants and return to camp where the leaves are boiled to extract resin. This resin is then mixed with kangaroo fat, creating a paste that can be stored for lengthy periods of time in bush conditions.

This paste forms a medicine that is used to heal cuts, wounds, bites, rashes and also acts as an insect repellant. By dreaming of “Bush Leaf Medicine Dreaming” the artist is paying homage to the spirit of the medicine plant in the hope that it will regenerate, enabling the people to use its healing powers.
